Christian Counseling at NPS

At NPS, we serve all faiths and are inclusive of all people groups, secular or religious. At times though, we get referrals from those who are expressing that they want a specific perspective from their Christian faith.
Christian counseling is similar to secular counseling in many ways. Both are motivated by a desire to help you overcome your difficulties, find meaning and joy, and become emotionally and mentally healthy so that you can live your best and fullest life.

Faith based counseling is distinct in that it also incorporates the spiritual dimension into healing and growth. Depending on your type of faith background or interest, a Christian counselor may integrate biblical principles when working through an issue, or may suggest a spiritual discipline as part of your personal healing plan. For many clients seeking a Christian counselor, having their faith central to the counseling is of highest importance.

What Christian counseling should not be is forceful, evangelistic, heavy-handed, or out of balance with other dimensions of health (chemical, physical, psychological, etc.). A professional Christian counselor should not present a simplistic, legalistic approach to healing or gloss over complex situations with absolutes.

A good counseling experience should always feel safe and non-judgmental and be especially marked by grace. Many times, a counseling session is the first place that someone takes the risk to share openly what they struggle with. Knowing that confidentiality is one of the highest principles in counseling, at NPS, we create a safe place to talk and work through some of the most sensitive circumstances in our clients’ lives.
